Crews
Your crew type determines the kinds of missions you’ll focus on, as well as a selection of abilities, specialists, and upgrades that support that kind of work. It isn’t meant to be restrictive – but will definitely give your group a core competency you can always count on.
Choosing a crew type is one of the most important decision you’ll make! It’s a way for the group to say, “These are the sorts of missions we want to do.” It organizes game play from “mystery-solving teens” to “negotiating interstellar treaties”—which helps the GM focus on the parts of the setting that matter most, rather than having to juggle every possibility at once. The group should choose a crew type that everyone is excited about. As a player, be vocal about your preferences. You’re about to spend many hours doing this, so if you’re feeling lukewarm about one of the options, speak up.
Available Crew Types
The game comes with the following to choose from:
SpecOps
A military (or ex-military) strike force specializing in battle, demolitions, and wet work (covert assassinations). Choosing this will result in a game that plays a bit like episodes of The A-Team or Delta Green. That is to say, expect an action movie feel with a lot of explosions, car chases, and gun fights.
Spies
Classic James Bond-style special agents with a focus on stealing secrets, infiltration, and sabotage. If you’re looking for a classic spy-game feel inspired by James Bond, The Man from UNCLE, Misson: Impossible, or Night’s Black Agents. Expect to spend a lot of time avoiding guards and taking photos from a distance.
Minders
Diplomats or governments agents working in political circles - specialists in diplomacy, defections, and coverups. This will produce a game filled with betrayal, double agents, and competing agendas where you’re never sure who you can trust. Expect at least one of your crew to be working for the other side. Series like House of Cards or The Expanse, movies like Blade Runner, Minority Report, or the Bourne trilogy are good inspiration.
Detectives
Analysts, scientists, private eyes, CSI - people who are in the game to fight crime and solve mysteries. This can result in a game reminiscent of series like The X-Files, CSI, Zoo, or Trail of Cthulu - where an intellectual puzzle is the real focus of the game.
Night Watch
Agents that focus on acquiring, monitoring and/or containing supernatural forces. Like the classic Night Watch books, Buffy, the Underworld movies, or Sapphire and Steel. This puts the focus on whatever paranormal forces you’re fighting.
