There’s a certain type of person who prefers to work at long range. A patient, meticulous type who can sit for hours up a tree or on a rooftop waiting for the perfect moment to strike, who can doggedly track a target through city or countryside. This is the playbook to create just such a character.

When you play a sniper, you gain xp when you address a challenge with tracking or violence. Your forte is locating a quarry and killing them dead, preferably from a hidden position a very long way away.

Starting builds

If you want some guidance when you assign your four starting action dots and special ability, use one of these templates.

Jared “Hellhound” Kincaid. Wreck +2, Attune +2. Sharpshooter. This template is inspired the mercenary scion who never misses in the Dresden Files.

Selene. Skirmish +2, Prowl +1, Command +1. Cover Fire. This template is inspired by the vampire death dealer of Underworld.

La Femme Nikita. Sway +2, Skirmish +1, Consort +1. Ambush. This template is inspired by the Section One operative and protagonist of La Femme Nikita.

Jack Reacher. Study +2, Skirmish +1, Consort +1. Vengeful. This template is inspired by the ex-military police officer and marksman from the Jack Reacher book series.

Sniper abilities

Sharpshooter — You can push yourself to do one of the following: make a ranged attack at extreme distance beyond what’s normal for the weapon—unleash a barrage of rapid fire to suppress the enemy

Scout — When you gather info to locate a target, you get +1 effect. When you hide in a prepared position or use camouflage, you get +1d to rolls to avoid detection.

Focused — You may expend your special armor to resist a consequence of surprise or mental harm (fear, confusion, losing track of someone) or to push yourself for ranged combat or tracking.

Ambush — When you attack from hiding or spring a trap, you get +1d to your roll.

Tough as nails — Penalties from harm are one level less severe (though level 4 harm is still fatal).

Vengeful — You gain an additional xp trigger: You got payback against someone who harmed you or someone you care about. If your crew helped you get payback, also mark crew xp.

Cover Fire — When you wield multiple ranged weapons, the scale of your attacks increases. When you unleash a barrage of rapid fire at an enemy, you get +1d to suppress them.

Sniper items

In addition to the standard gear you have access to the following items:

Light climbing gear — A well-crafted set of climbing gear that is less bulky and heavy than a standard set. Standard climbing gear is 2 load. [1 load]

Fine sniper rifle — A high-powered sniper rifle, deadly at long range. You have the appropriate security clearance for this, either real or forged. [2 load]

Speciality ammo — A small amount of armor-piercing bullets, tracer rounds, explosive shells, toxin rounds, or stun rounds. Feel free to choose which ammunition type you brought with you when you mark this item. [1 load ]

Comms laser — Uses a modulated tight-beam laser to send a message safe against jamming or interception except by opponents directly in the laser’s line of sight. It can also only communicate with allies or receivers directly in the laser’s line of sight. [1 load]
