Modding the Game
This section discusses the different ways you can mold the rules to reflect your vision for your game.
Option: Remove the supernatural
While urban fantasy of one sort or another is extremely popular, some people just want a plain old spy game, and this is very easy to achieve in Buried Secrets. All you need to do is drop the Adept and the Night Watch from the options you present the players.
You don’t actually need to adjust the investigative skills. In a game without the supernatural there are plenty of urban legends, superstitious criminals, and pseudoscientific beliefs that can be leveraged by the conspiracy to send coded messages, recruit members or scare away less determined investigators. Agents can still use knowledge in these areas to detect and interpret the actions of the conspiracy.
First they’d shear them here in the mill, then ship them to the black market somewhere. That’s about it. The werewolf disguises and open grave were just to scare off intruders.
Option: Psionics, super-science, or super-heroics
